Go on a beach clean
A beach clean is a brilliant way to turn a day at the seaside into something even more meaningful. All you need is a bag, some gloves (garden gloves are fine), and maybe a litter picker if you have one, but it’s not essential!
As you stroll along the sand or pebbles with your child, you’ll both start to notice the little things: bottle tops, bits of fishing line, crisp packets. That growing awareness is a big part of the magic.
It’s a gentle way to open up chats about how rubbish ends up in the sea, how it affects animals like seabirds and turtles, and what we can do to help. It can feel a bit like a treasure hunt, too. Children love spotting strange objects, and you might even find something curious or unexpected. Plus, knowing they’ve made a real difference gives children a sense of pride and power. It’s hands-on, feel-good learning that gets everyone moving, thinking, connecting with nature, and with each other.
