Get gardening
Whether it’s a window box, a few pots, or a proper veg patch, getting children involved in gardening is a brilliant way to grow their love for nature, along with the plants! You don’t need anything fancy: a trowel, some compost, and a few easy-to-grow seeds like sunflowers, salad leaves, or beans will do nicely.
Children love getting their hands in the soil, watering, digging, and spotting the first shoots poking through. It’s packed with life lessons too, patience, responsibility, and where food really comes from. And if you're already pottering in the garden, inviting your child to help can turn chores into bonding time. They might enjoy deadheading flowers, collecting fallen leaves, or making bug hotels from twigs and pinecones.
Watching something grow because of their care is both magical and empowering. Plus, it gets everyone outside, slows things down, and creates lovely, muddy memories together.
